Picture this: You’ve spent hours designing the perfect website on Showit. Every button is exactly where it belongs, the colors are gorgeous, and your copy makes you want to high-five yourself. But when you hit publish… crickets. Where is everyone? 

I get it—pouring your heart into something only for it to sit unnoticed is frustrating. The good news? SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is like handing out a beautifully designed map that guides your dream clients right to your digital doorstep. And with Showit, mastering SEO doesn’t have to feel like scaling a mountain. Let’s break down how to increase SEO on your Showit website step-by-step.

1. Lay the Foundation with Strong Keywords

Keywords are like trail signs along a scenic hike—they help people find the exact path to what they’re searching for. The secret? Use the words your ideal clients type into Google when they’re looking for services like yours. Utilize these keywords throughout your website but also on your images. Update the title of your images along with the descriptions once they’re uploaded into Showit. 

Start by brainstorming the terms your clients might search for. Tools like Ubersuggest, Google, or even asking your audience directly can be goldmines of information.

When I first started learning SEO years ago, it was overwhelming and daunting. Like anything with ‘Search Engine’ is probably going to be super techy. Turns out, platforms like Showit have made it easy along with just talking to people about what they type into search bars was far more effective. Simple, right? Focus on words that describe your services, your location (if relevant), and the problems you solve.

Pro Tip: Avoid keyword stuffing (using the same word over and over). Think natural, conversational language—just like you’re chatting with a friend. 

2. Optimize Your Page Titles and Descriptions

Think of your page titles and page descriptions as the welcome mat and front door of your website. They’re the first things visitors see on Google, so make them inviting and clear.

Customize the titles and descriptions for each page on your Showit site. Your homepage title should be specific (not just “Services”) and your page descriptions should give a reason to click.

Early on, I made the rookie mistake of leaving my services page title as simply “Services.” Not exactly enticing. And your page descriptions? They should give viewers a reason to click. 

I’ve been there and done that, titling my services page as simply “Services”. Don’t be like me and let’s make sure your welcome mat says something worth stepping onto! 

Example: Instead of a boring “About” page title, try something like, “Meet [Your Name]—Helping [Your Audience] [Solve Problem].”

Also, incorporate your primary keyword naturally into your titles and descriptions. This tells search engines exactly what your page is about and helps boost visibility.

3. Structure Your Content Like a Well-Built Home

Imagine walking into a house where the front door opens straight into the bathroom.  Awkward, right? Or if you’ve ever wandered into a house where the layout made no sense, you know how frustrating poor structure can be. Your website should guide visitors naturally from one section to another, like a home where the living room flows into the kitchen, not into a random closet. 

Use headings (H1, H2, H3) to create a clear structure. Your H1 is your main headline (you only get one per page), and H2s and H3s break up content into readable sections. Search engines (and people!) both love well-organized content.

Headings are attention grabbing so you want to keep these titles concise and not long paragraphs that way they’re easy to read. For SEO, incorporating keywords like in your headings is a great idea—just make sure it feels natural and not forced.

4. Speed Matters—Don’t Keep Visitors Waiting

Imagine walking up to a front door, knocking, and waiting. And waiting. Most people won’t stick around—they’ll leave. Your website speed works the same way.

I mean, have you ever gone to a site that took so long to load that by the time it popped up you forgot what you wanted to look at? Yeah, me too. A fast site is a welcoming site. 

To increase your website’s speed, compress or reduce images’ file size – this will help reduce load times. To compress images, use tools like TinyPNG. Compressing images will keep your images looking great without slowing your site (aka it reduces the file size while still maintaining the quality). 

If you have a Mac, you can also reduce the image’s file size by opening the image in preview, then going to “Tools” and “Adjust Size” then reducing the pixel amounts. Make sure to check “Resample Image” so that the file size reduces. This will however reduce the quality of the image so use this method wisely. 

To check your website’s speed, use Google’s Page Speed Insight or GTmetrix. These platforms will help you get specific recommendations.

5. Internal Links—Guide Visitors Through Your Home

Internal links are like hallways connecting the rooms of your house. They guide visitors from one part of your site to another, keeping them engaged and exploring.

Link from your blog posts to your services page or contact page and vice versa. Make it easy for people to find related content without getting lost.

Use descriptive anchor text for links. Instead of saying “click here,” you can use: “Learn more here ” or “View Services” or “Read More About Me” that way your viewer knows what to expect when they click a link.

6. Copywriting = The Heart of the Home

Decor sets the vibe, but it’s the warmth of conversations that turns a house into a home. Your copy does the same. It builds connection, tells your story, and shows visitors why working with you will make a difference in their lives.

Beautiful design may catch someone’s eye, but it’s your words that create connection (with people and search engines). Warm, engaging copy sprinkled with keywords makes your visitors feel at home and encourages them to stick around.

Tell a story on your about page that makes readers feel like you’re relatable and they say, “Oh wow, they get me.” Point out their pain points such as why they need your service, how it’s going to help them
